What is coconut oil and why should you use it every day?
Coconut oil is a vegetable oil pressed from the flesh of the coconut. To make sure you’re looking at the right thing, a good guideline is to use the word ‘cold-pressed’ or ‘virgin’. Cold-pressed coconut oil is characterised by a white glassy texture, a pleasantly sweet coconut aroma and a melt-in-the-mouth texture.
People are often confused about the difference between coconut fat and coconut oil.Fat is a combination of fatty acids, hence ‘coconut fat’, but since coconut oil is liquid at 25C, the term ‘coconut oil’ is used.”

Besides unsaturated fatty acids, the body also needs saturated fatty acids. Coconut oil contains 92% saturated fatty acids, two thirds of which are medium chain fatty acids, The fatty acid composition of cold-pressed coconut oil is the secret of its weight-loss properties. Coconut oil is a vegetable oil that contains no cholesterol and does not raise bad cholesterol levels. It contains less net fat and calories per unit weight than any other dietary fat. One gram of coconut oil contains only 6.8 kcal, other oils contain on average 9 kcal.
