Description
Matcha tea gives the body energy, improves memory and mood, strengthens the immune system, lowers cholesterol and blood sugar, promotes metabolism, is rich in fibre, and contains vitamin C, chromium, zinc and magnesium. Matcha contains more caffeine than regular black tea and several times more than regular green tea, but less than black coffee. It does not make your heart race, but it gives you a good energy boost in the morning. The caffeine in matcha works in conjunction with the amino acid L-theanine, which provides up to six hours of energy without side effects.
One cup of matcha tea contains five times more antioxidants than any other food. According to the ORAC index, which determines the antioxidant content of food, matcha green tea has over five times more antioxidants than goji berries and over ten times more than pomegranates or blueberries, for example. If you want to help your body achieve and maintain good health, there is nothing better than drinking matcha.
Matcha also helps cleanse the body of toxins. Three weeks before the matcha tea leaves are harvested, they are covered from sunlight. This causes the plant to produce large amounts of chlorophyll, which not only gives the tea its wonderful bright green colour, but also has cleansing properties – matcha cleanses the body of heavy metals and toxins.
Being almost calorie-free, matcha is also a good aid to weight loss programmes. By speeding up the metabolism – and thereby accelerating the weight loss process up to four times – matcha does not cause stress in the body – it does not raise blood pressure or pulse rate, lowers cholesterol levels, making it a healthy alternative to other medical aids and side-effect-prone remedies.
If you have the choice between Chinese and Japanese matcha, always choose Japanese matcha.
The organic matcha tea we offer comes from Kagoshima Prefecture in Japan.
