Paleo is a healthy way to eat because it’s the only approach to nutrition that takes into account the genetics that have evolved over millions of years, helping you to enjoy a long, lean, strong and active life. Our diet today consists overwhelmingly of foods that barely existed 100-200 years ago. However, most of this new stuff, which could be summarised as ‘Neolithic food’, is genetically unsuitable for us, or at least sub-optimal. In today’s fast-paced world, the Paleo diet tries to make good choices based on your body and health.

Why does paleo dieting work?
While the paleo motto “Eat real food” sounds logical, and the admission that much of the conventional diet is rather bad for your health makes you nod your head, surely you want to know why paleo is the right and good thing to do? After all, a balanced and varied diet should go without saying. Why do we still need a separate approach? The basics of the Paleo diet are very different from other diets. These differences are important because they have a direct impact on your prospects of regaining health or balancing your weight.
Paleo success is based on
- low glycemic index carbohydrates from plant sources reduce appetite caused by high insulin and keep the body’s energy stable;
- foods high in fibre help you feel full for longer, especially if they do not contain starch;
- omega-3 fatty acids and other healthy fats help to keep you feeling full and slow down the body’s metabolism of sugars, keeping blood sugar stable and helping to burn fat stored in the body;
- proteins help to build muscle, which in turn speeds up fat burning;
- Increased intake of vitamin C from fresh fruit and vegetables, especially berries, also helps burn fat, resulting in the body using stored fats for fuel and dietary fat for energy;
- a low-sugar diet helps prevent insulin resistance and blood sugar fluctuations. Stable blood sugar levels help to keep the body’s energy levels stable and reduce fatigue.
